Survival Guide for Out of Towners

First thing to do: order a pisco sour and enjoy it...carefully.

Weather: The city of Lima has an arid and semi-warm climate. The average annual
maximum temperature is 21,97oC (71,4oF) and the minimum is 17oC (62oF). The temperature
increases in the years when the "El Nino" phenomenon occurs.  

Altitud: Lowest point: 3 masl / 10 fasl (Ancon). / -Highest point: 861 masl / 2825 fasl (Chosica).  

Time:  Lima time coincides with Eastern Standard Time in the US and is five hours behind G.M.T.

Weight and Measures:  Kilograms and metric system.

Electric Current:  220V. Five stars hotels have special 110v.

Tipping:   Most restaurants add a 10% tip. Plus you should also considerer the 19% sales
tax. Doorkeepers should be tipped USD$1 per bag. Taxi drivers do not expect a tip.

Airport taxes:  USD$30.25 dollars before leaving Peru.

Water:  It is advised that you drink only bottled water. Most tap water in Peru is processed
differently than abroad, and therefore could make you sick.  

Currency: Peruvian Sol

1 dollar: 2.70 soles (sucks!)
1 euro: 4.22636 soles.
